Article cover: How much does a website cost in 2026 and what should it include

If you have asked for quotes for a website, you will have seen all kinds of prices: from offers of a hundred euros to projects costing several thousand. And the most confusing part is that they all claim to offer “a professional website”. In this guide we explain what the price of a website depends on, what it should always include and how to compare quotes so you don’t get any surprises.

Why prices vary so much

A website is not a finished product like a household appliance. It is a project, and its price depends above all on how much work goes into it and what it has to achieve. A five-page website presenting a business has nothing in common with an online store with thousands of products connected to a warehouse.

These are the factors that matter most:

  • The type of website: corporate, landing page, online store, custom site with special features…
  • The number of pages and languages.
  • The design: adapting a template or designing from scratch around your brand.
  • Copy and images: whether you provide them or they need to be created.
  • Features: forms, bookings, payments, private areas, catalogues, integrations with other tools…
  • Initial SEO and speed: having the site ready for Google from day one.
  • Maintenance: updates, backups and support after launch.

Types of website and what each is for

Landing page

A single page focused on one specific goal: capturing leads, selling a product or promoting a campaign. It is quick to build and very useful for advertising, but it falls short as a business’s main website.

Corporate or services website

The classic company website: home, services, about us, work or case studies, blog and contact. It is the foundation of most businesses’ online presence and what is most often needed.

Online store (e-commerce)

It includes a catalogue, cart, payments, shipping, order management and often a connection to inventory or marketplaces. It is more complex, and its price depends heavily on the number of products and integrations.

Custom website

When you need features that don’t exist in standard platforms: configurators, calculators, technical catalogues, client areas… One example is the website we built for PPM Concepts & Solutions, with a 360º 3D viewer for every part, a catalogue with technical data sheets, quotes based on urgency and four languages.

What every professional website should include

Whatever the price, some things should never be missing:

  1. Mobile-friendly design. Most visits come from phones.
  2. Loading speed. A slow website loses visitors and Google rankings.
  3. Clear copy explaining what you do, who it’s for and why choose you.
  4. Visible calls to action and contact options: form, phone, WhatsApp or booking.
  5. Basic SEO: titles, descriptions, heading structure, clean URLs, sitemap and structured data.
  6. Legal pages and cookies in line with the regulations that apply to you.
  7. Security certificate (HTTPS) and backups.
  8. Analytics so you know how many visits you get and what visitors do.
  9. The website belongs to you: the domain in your name and access to everything you pay for.
A cheap website that brings no customers ends up costing more than a well-built one that does.

Hidden costs worth asking about

Many surprises arrive after launch. Before accepting a quote, ask about:

  • Domain and hosting: who pays for them, how much they cost per year and whose name they are in.
  • Paid licences and plugins: some templates and extensions are billed every year.
  • Maintenance: what it includes and what happens if something stops working.
  • Future changes: how much it costs to add a page or edit content.
  • Ownership: if you move to another provider, do you take the website with you?

How to compare quotes

Two quotes with the same price can include very different things. To compare them properly:

  1. Ask them to detail what is included: pages, languages, features, copy, SEO and training.
  2. Check the timelines and how many rounds of changes are included.
  3. Look at real previous work and open it on your phone.
  4. Ask how you will measure whether the website works: visits, leads, sales.
  5. Be wary of anyone who gives you a price without asking about your business first.

Frequently asked questions

Is a template or a custom design better?

A good, well-adapted template can be enough to get started and keeps the project affordable. Custom design makes sense when your brand, user experience or features are key to selling and a template holds you back.

How long does it take to build a website?

A simple corporate website can be ready in one or two weeks if the content is prepared. Online stores and custom sites need more time. What delays projects most is usually waiting for copy and images.

Do I need maintenance after launch?

Yes, in most cases. Platforms and extensions get updated, security issues appear and content changes. Maintenance stops your website from becoming outdated or breaking.

Does a new website show up on Google by itself?

No. A well-built website makes ranking easier, but reaching the top results requires ongoing SEO work. We explain it in SEO for a new website.

In short

The price of a website depends on what it has to do for your business. Before comparing figures, compare what is included, who owns what and how results will be measured. If you want to know what yours would cost, try the configurator or tell us about your project.
